TRAVEL: PISMO BEACH
In the warm summer lulls of mid-week July, my friends and I took a three day trip to Pismo Beach. Never heard of Pismo nor did I know that it was just north of Los Angeles (I’m not big on California geography).
We were greeted with a cool 75, unlike the mid 90’s of SoCal. We stayed at a coastal hotel by the name of, “Shore Cliff” with an amazing view of the sea. The room was quaint and the waves were calming. One thing, one big, major, crazy thing we were not aware of was the amount of birds that were circling the property. The hotel was planted behind a huge cliff, explaining the name, “The Shore Cliff Hotel.” Little did we know, the area was owned by pelicans and seagulls who resided on those said cliffs.
“Shoo, Fred….Segal!”
The two nights after, we were listening to dawn and morning Aves cries, which we eventually tried shushing by turning on the wall AC. The pool was unusable. White stained droppings and feathers everywhere. It’s a shame. The pool looked amazing.
Food was good, but nothing too noteworthy. Except for CLAM CHOWDER! at Splash Cafe. I have no words for that chowder. It was unspeakably good in all its bread bowl glory. My friends seem to like Giuseppes, an Italian Restaurant. I thought it was a pleasant candlelit dinner. What I didn’t tell them is that I don’t really prefer that many carbs, although I’ll really eat anything.
What this trip had me missing was some good ol’ Asian food.
One of the better parts of this trip were the tidepools! Amazing sea life to be seen on the north coast. Tiny muscles, barnacles, sea anemones, snails, hermit crabs, regular crabs, and so much more.
The BEST part of this trip were my relaxing friends! Who needs a tight itinerary when you have a good book, the beach, wine, and chill people?
Overall, a good experience. Could do without the birds next time!
